Service 03

Stump grinding & removal.

Complete tree stump removal below ground level, with a narrow-access machine that fits through a standard single gate.

Below-grade removal, no trace left behind.

Our 26" grinder passes through any standard single gate at 74cm wide, so tight rear gardens aren't a problem. We grind to at least 300mm below finished ground level, which is enough to turf, pave, or plant over without any trace of the stump left to rot.

We scan for underground services before the grinder comes out. Gas, electric, water: if there's anything buried near the stump we'll discuss how to work around it before we start. Chip can be removed or spread back as mulch, whichever suits you.

Questions we get asked

Do tree surgeons remove stumps?
Yes. Felling a tree leaves the stump in the ground, so we follow up with stump grinding to take it out properly. Our narrow-access machine grinds at least 300mm below ground level, removing the stump completely so you can turf, pave or plant straight over the top.
How much does stump grinding cost?
We price per stump rather than by guesswork, so we'll come and measure it first and confirm the price before we start. There are no surprises on the day, and you choose whether we remove the chip or spread it back as mulch.
How deep do you grind a tree stump?
At least 300mm (about a foot) below the finished ground level, which is enough to turf, pave or plant straight over without the old stump working its way back to the surface. If you're laying foundations or need it deeper for a particular reason, tell us and we'll grind to suit.
Can you remove a stump in a tight or rear garden?
Yes. Our stump grinder is a narrow-access machine at 74cm wide, so it passes through a standard single gate and into rear gardens a larger machine can't reach. We scan for buried gas, electric and water services before we start, then grind the stump out below ground level.
