How we handle your information when you contact Birdsall Tree Services or use this site. Plain English, no surprises.

Last updated: 5 June 2026

Birdsall Tree Services (“we”, “us”) is a tree surgery and arboriculture business based in Great Preston, West Yorkshire. We are the data controller for the personal information described below. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the rights you have under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).

What we collect

  • When you use our enquiry form: your name, your phone number and/or email address, your postcode, the type of work you need, and anything you write in the message box.
  • When you contact us directly: by phone, email or WhatsApp, whatever details you choose to share so we can help with your enquiry.
  • Technical data: our hosting provider records standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) for security and to keep the site running. If website analytics are enabled, anonymous usage data may be collected with your consent (see Cookies and analytics below).

How and why we use it

  • To reply to your enquiry, arrange a free site visit and provide a written quote.
  • To carry out tree work you ask us to do and keep in touch about it.
  • To keep records of work quoted and completed, and to meet our legal and insurance obligations.

Our lawful bases are taking steps at your request before entering into a contract and our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries and running the business. Where analytics cookies are used, our basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. We do not use your details for marketing unless you ask us to, and we never sell your data.

Who we share it with

We only share your information with the service providers that help us run the site and respond to you:

  • Netlify: hosts this website and processes form submissions on our behalf.
  • Resend: delivers your enquiry from the website to our inbox by email.
  • Microsoft (Outlook): our email provider, where we receive and reply to enquiries.

These providers act as our processors under contract and only handle your data to provide their service. Some may process data outside the UK; where they do, appropriate safeguards are in place. We may also disclose information if required to by law.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiry details only as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and any resulting work, plus a reasonable period afterwards for our records, accounts and insurance, typically up to six years for completed jobs, in line with normal business and tax requirements. Enquiries that don’t lead to work are deleted sooner once they’re no longer needed.

Cookies and analytics

This site does not set advertising or tracking cookies of its own. If we enable website analytics (for example through Google Tag Manager) to understand how the site is used, any non-essential cookies will only be set with your consent, and you can decline or withdraw that consent at any time through your browser settings or any cookie controls shown on the site.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
  • have inaccurate data corrected, or incomplete data completed;
  • ask us to delete your data, or restrict or object to how we use it;
  • withdraw consent where we rely on it (such as for analytics).

To exercise any of these, just contact us using the details below. You also have the right to complain to the UK’s data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), at ico.org.uk, though we’d appreciate the chance to put things right first.
