Hedge cutting & trimming.

Hedge cutting and trimming: annual trims, reshaping and regular maintenance, always checked for nesting birds before we start, whatever the time of year.

Neat lines, healthy hedges, year after year.

From a single annual trim to a regular maintenance visit, we keep garden hedges neat, healthy and the right size for their space. We check for nesting birds before every job without exception. If there are birds in it, the work waits. We'll always tell you honestly if that's the case.

For most maintained hedges we aim for a late-summer cut once the season's growth is done and the birds have finished. If a hedge has been left too long for a trim to fix, or it's in the way altogether, that's a different job: see our hedge removal & reduction service. All arisings are taken away as standard.

Hedge cutting & trimming

Questions we get asked

When is the best time to cut a hedge?
For most maintained hedges we aim for a late-summer cut once the season's growth is done and nesting birds have finished. Formal hedges that need a crisp edge can have a second light trim earlier in the season. We check for nesting birds before every job, whatever the time of year.
How often should a hedge be cut?
Most garden hedges stay neat on one good cut a year, usually in late summer once the growth has finished and the birds have fledged. Fast growers like privet and leylandii look better with two visits, one early and one late in the season. If a hedge has been left for years and a trim won't bring it back, that's a job for our hedge removal & reduction service instead, and we'll tell you honestly which it needs.
How much does hedge cutting cost?
It depends on the height and length of the hedge and how easy it is to reach. A short garden privet is a different visit to a long run of tall beech. We give a free site visit and a written, fixed quote with all the clippings cleared, so you know the price before we start.
Do you take the hedge clippings away?
Yes, clearing all the arisings is included as standard, and we leave the site tidier than we found it. If you'd rather keep some of the material for a compost heap or log pile, just say so at the visit.
